On Friday, March 6, the School experienced one of those memorable afternoons: the ALUMNI Encounter “Women in Music”, held as part of the SEMBLANZAS series, brought together alumni for conversation, listening, and reconnection.
The day began with a particularly inspiring colloquium: a dialogue on performers as agents of creation, transmission, and resignification of a musical work, with the participation of Raquel Lojendio. It was an intimate space to reflect, from the perspective of artistic practice, on how meaning is constructed on stage, how a repertoire is inherited and transformed, and how each performance—with its decisions, nuances, and interpretations—is also an act of creation.
This was followed by the concert “On the Reverse of the Score”, a program that focused on the musical creation of female composers from different eras—from Farrenc to Viardot, from Vega to Landowska, from Mahler to many others—and on the power of listening to them today, from the present. The music served as a tribute, but also as a conversation: a way to recognize the work of women in music and to continue providing them with a platform.
Afterwards, the gathering continued with an ALUMNI cocktail reception that was much more than an informal closing: it became a moment of generational exchange between alumni and the student performers from the concert, with conversations spanning very different experiences, careers, and realities.
For some, it was their first ALUMNI Encounter; others attended with the excitement of reconnecting with old friends; and there were also those who took the opportunity to share ongoing projects and the journey they have taken since their time at the School. Altogether, it was an afternoon that confirmed something essential: the ALUMNI community is built precisely in this way—by meeting again, listening to one another, and finding common ground.
The ALUMNI Department would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to creating such an atmosphere. The goal is to continue consolidating a professional, close-knit, and active network where the bond with the School remains alive and present.
