András Schiff: Bach – Partita for keyboard no. 2 BWV 826 – V. Rondeaux

Course
2023-24

BACH, Johann Sebastian

Keyboard Partita No. 2 in C minor, BWV 826

V. Rondeaux

András Schiff, visiting professor

Daumants Liepins, student

Regarding the Rondo, the professor notes that it must sound light, emphasizing the descending sevenths and the anacrusis. In this sense, the ornaments must also be very light and smooth.
It is a “Rondeau à la Couperin,” meaning the couplets should have a different character, in this case, more sonority. Later, he offers phrasing suggestions to make it sound more lyrical. For the ending, Schiff suggests playing more naturally, as if applying Isaac Newton’s law of gravity.
