SCHUMANN, Robert
Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano in A-flat major, op. 70 (transcription for viola and piano)
I. Adagio
Antoine Tamestit, guest professor
Guillermo Gil García, student
Juan Barahona, accompanying pianist
At the beginning, Professor Tamestit makes some initial comments about sound and posture with the viola. It is a work for horn; the beginning is in a single breath for a single phrase, so the student should not change the bow too much. The body posture should be like skiing, with suspension, and keeping the viola high but with a very relaxed posture, without blocking. He also suggests that the student start bow up and corrects other aspects related to the movement of the arm and the contact with the strings.
