Calogero Palermo: Schumann – Drei Romanzen op. 94 – 2. Einfach, innig

Course
2023-24

SCHUMANN, Robert

Drei Romanzen (Three Romances) for clarinet and piano op. 94

2. Einfach, innig

Calogero Palermo, guest professor

Cristian Emanuel Rupa, student

Samuel Tirado Villaescusa, accompanying pianist

The sound playing inside the piano is ideal for this Romance. Palermo also recommends playing without too much expression; it is simple. The first sforzato should not be forte, but rather piano. They review the opening entry and the musical phrasing. Later, in the repetition, the tempo should not be slowed down.
In conclusion, the professor advises him not to produce the forte by pushing from the lips, which would result in a narrow sound, but rather from the stomach.
The professor continues with several indications regarding articulation, dynamics, character, and tuning (for which he suggests a specific fingering).
