Christoph Poppen: Bloch – Baal Shem – II. Nigun

Course
2017-18

BLOCH, Ernest

Baal Shem (Master of the Name) for violin and piano

II. Nigun

Christoph Poppen, visiting professor

Elina Sitnikava, student

Vadim Gladkov, accompanying pianist

The character of this piece is like a prayer. In general, the student needs to play with more bow speed and contact. At a certain point where there is a large leap, the teacher reviews the string change and finger position to achieve more strength and a better sound.

Technically, the student has to use more pressure in the middle part of the bow towards the fingerboard. To improve the sound, the bow must remain parallel to the bridge.

To conclude, Poppen adds some explanations about articulation in legato.
