HAYDN, Franz Joseph
Symphony in A major H I: 64 “Tempora mutantur”
III. Minuet. Allegretto – Trio
IV. Finale. Presto
Christoph Poppen, professor
Camerata EDP of the Reina Sofía School of Music
In the Minuet, the upbeat at the beginning should not be so short in Maestro Poppen’s opinion. They review a certain note in the first violins and later he corrects the articulation to achieve a more elegant sound.
Poppen congratulates the horns on their performance and points out that at the beginning of the Trio the oboes played slightly sharp.
The beginning of the Finale should also have a very transparent sound, more floating without so much crescendo. Later, Professor Poppen reviews the articulation in the first violins so that certain notes sound with more tension, creating slightly more separation from the preceding notes.
In addition, the professor gives them brief indications about ensemble coordination, bow handling in the spiccato, as well as taking greater care with the sound in long notes and better sound preparation for the small solo of the second violins. Finally, they review the articulation at a certain point and the ensemble coordination in a small ritardando.
