PROKOFIEV, Sergey
Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80
II. Allegro brusco
Christoph Poppen, guest professor
Victoria Warzyca, student
Ricardo Alí Álvarez, accompanying pianist
Poppen points out that the movement sounds too gentle; it should be more brusque, like a tank demolishing everything in its path, horrible. The tempo also has to be more marked, with force and without changes, until the next part arrives, which is like another world. They play again from the beginning to correct details: he must keep a very exact pulse with the piano, breathing with it and without wasting time in the preparation of the chords. Afterwards, there is a moment when you have to think that it is like a hero, with the violin held high. The comma should not be an extra beat, it is too much: it should be a breath.
The professor continues to make indications about the tempo and the meter, and the moments in which he should accelerate or wait longer.
