PROKOFIEV, Sergey
Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80
III. Andante
Christoph Poppen, guest professor
Victoria Warzyca, student
Ricardo Alí Álvarez, accompanying pianist
First, the professor makes a brief general recommendation to the student, outside of the piece itself, regarding the position of the arm with the bow: sometimes she keeps her elbow too high, which prevents relaxation when playing. Regarding this movement, Christoph Poppen explains a scene again to give the student an idea of what this movement conveys and its atmosphere: Doctor Zhivago on the train to a concentration camp, and at night, the full moon illuminating the sky above. At the beginning, the colors should resemble those of the first movement a little. At a certain point, he makes a phrasing correction.
