SAINT-SAËNS, Camille
Introduction and Capricious Rondo for Violin Solo and Orchestra in A minor, Op. 28 (reduction for violin and piano)
Christoph Poppen, visiting professor
Inés Issel Burzyñska, student
Vadim Gladkov, accompanying pianist
Professor Poppen begins the class with brief initial advice on tuning in front of an audience. After the student’s performance, he gives her advice on the position of the left shoulder and posture when playing: they work on the tension and relaxation of the left hand. In addition, Christoph Poppen makes some comments on the “capricious” character and expression of the piece, as well as on the vibrato, dynamics and sound, bow direction in relation to syncopation and accents, bow strokes and pressure on the strings, pauses, articulations, fingers, etc.
