1. Reflets dans l’eau
Emanuel Krasovsky, guest professor
Alberto Martín, student
After the student plays the piece, the first thing Professor Krasovsky talks about is the impressionistic character in Debussy: he compares his style with that of previous romantic composers and highlights the fact that as a composer he opens up the sound, introduces colors, exotic harmonies with influences from the East… eliminating the sensation of claustrophobia. The student should reflect this more generally in his interpretation.
Regarding Reflections in the water, the professor talks about its musical meaning and addresses issues related to chords and color. Later he continues with indications regarding dynamics and fingers. At a certain point, silence must be made without great separation, suggesting questions of phrasing and continuity of sound.
Professor Krasovsky also addresses other aspects of the interpretation such as expressiveness, freedom or metric rigor, and the attitude of the musician at a certain more lively point. They also work on musical aspects related to accentuation, note duration and rhythm. Regarding phrasing, he suggests not stopping: the water must always flow. Afterwards, the articulation of the right hand should not be so marked and questions of voice identification are discussed. Emanuel Krasovsky also makes suggestions on the use of the pedal, the character, not making rubatos in complex rhythm, attention to harmony and pulse.
