The professor congratulates him after the complete performance of the 2nd movement, and reflects on teachers: the student should take in the opinions or advice of each master but interpret them with his own way of playing, not imitating but expressing his own ideas. Reed then has the student think about the phrasing and breathing of the theme, as well as the accents. He continues with indications about expressiveness and character for the next part of the movement, and the change of fingering and sound for certain notes.
