BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van
Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 1 No. 3
II. Andante cantabile con variazioni
Ferenc Rados, guest professor
Areti Trio
Anna Asieieva, violin
Indira Rahmatulla, cello
Lidia Nochovska, piano
The first correction that Professor Ferenc Rados makes regarding the interpretation of the 2nd movement of this Trio is the way to play the ornaments on the piano, their articulation, accentuation, and speed in the execution. He continues with indications primarily for the pianist: it is necessary to distinguish in the left hand, in a certain part, what is ornament and what are basic notes. It is important to improve the phrasing at this point and make distinctions: the movement and internal speed of the notes usually depend on the general structure of the passage (he shows it in the 4th variation). He also makes some brief comments on character and harmony.
