Course
2001-02

BOTTESINI, Giovanni

Elegy No. 1 for Double Bass and String Orchestra in D major (reduction for double bass and piano)

Franco Petracchi, guest professor

Emilio Yepes, student

Jesús Gómez Madrigal, accompanying pianist

Masterclass by Maestro Petracchi, in which he discusses Bottesini and his intention when composing this work: to remember his city (with mixed feelings). Afterwards, the professor plays the piece while providing performance instructions to the student.
Resuming from the beginning with the student, Petracchi offers comments primarily regarding character, sound, tuning, and fingering. He also suggests playing a certain fragment with more vibrato and comments on how to extend the fingerboard. He continues with indications on dynamics and remarks on the need for logic when fingering, proposing more suitable fingerings for certain passages. Additionally, he gives the student instructions regarding articulation and phrasing for specific moments of the Elegy.
