SCHUMANN, Robert
Fantasiestücke (Fantasy Pieces) for clarinet and piano, Op. 73 (version for viola and piano)
I. Zart und mit Ausdruck
Gérard Caussé, guest professor
Héctor Mira Ferriz, student
Antonia Valente, accompanist pianist
At the beginning, the student plays the first Fantasy Piece. Following a question from the student about a specific passage in the movement, Caussé suggests an alternative fingering and asks for greater visual coordination with the pianist so that they come together at that point.
They then start again from the beginning, and the professor comments that this music cannot be overly rational; these pieces call for passion and emotional involvement. After playing it again, the professor and student try several options for a certain difficult intervallic leap. Caussé also makes some corrections regarding phrasing and expressiveness at certain moments.
