SCHUMANN, Robert
Fantasiestücke (Fantasy Pieces) for clarinet and piano op. 73 (version for viola and piano)
II. Lebhaft, leicht
Gérard Caussé, guest professor
Héctor Mira Ferriz, student
Antonia Valente, collaborative pianist
The professor congratulates the student after the performance, as it is not an easy piece, originally written for clarinet, and adapting it for viola can sometimes be more complicated, especially the high parts doubled by the piano.
For the initial theme, he suggests applying more bow pressure on the string to enhance the harmonic. Later, Caussé makes some corrections regarding phrasing and articulation to better align with the piano’s phrases. In the repeated section, the professor suggests the student play it differently, for example: the 1st time lighter and the 2nd time more assertively. Further on, he makes a small intonation correction in a certain interval.
