MOZART, Wolfgang Amadeus
Concerto for violin and orchestra No. 4 in D major K 218 (reduction for violin and piano)
III. Rondo
Gérard Poulet, guest professor
Lucas Bienzobas Sánchez, student
Duncan Gifford, accompanying pianist
The first thing that Professor Poulet proposes in this class on the Rondo of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4, is that the student make a small cadence at a certain point. Afterwards, he corrects the articulation for a passage, which should be staccatissimo (with a tear), and makes other corrections regarding the phrasing and bowings, always playing to show the student his indications. He also shows him another edition of the score (by Joachim), recommending that in certain fragments he play it as it is written in it because it is more “close” to Mozart. He continues with corrections on the tempo and agogics, articulations, and asks the student to respect the indication “ma non troppo”. Certain attacks should go on the beat, and then he corrects the use of the bow in the double string part to obtain correct intonation.
He concludes with several indications on the phrasing, vibrato at a certain point, and in the final part with the orchestra to play with more force and energy.
