SCHUMANN, Robert
Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano in A-flat major, op. 70 (transcription for viola and piano)
I. Adagio
Hariolf Schlichtig, guest professor
Samuel David Palomino Kingjler, student
Juan Barahona, accompanying pianist
First, Professor Schlichtig corrects the student’s position, the movement of the right hand, and the position of the elbow in relation to the contact point of the bow. He also refers to the position of the fingertips: it is very important that the fingertips feel the contact with the bow and use it correctly, which will imply feeling more connection with the sound.
In addition, some explanations and corrections are made regarding string changes, phrasing, relaxation, maintaining the sound without stopping the bow, bow changes, and expressiveness.
