MOZART, Wolfgang Amadeus
Concerto for flute and orchestra in G major K 313 (reduction for flute and piano)
III. Rondo. Tempo di Minuetto
Jacques Zoon, professor
Neus Puig Valls, student
Cameron Roberts, accompanying pianist
After the student plays the third movement of the Flute Concerto K 313, the professor first makes a suggestion regarding the position of the music stand, she should not cover it. Zoon writes some indications on the score regarding articulations, breaths, and phrasing. Then the professor shows it by playing.
Once they resume from the beginning, they work on aspects related to saving air, the tongue in the emission of sound, the position of the head and mouth to improve that emission of sound, resonance, dynamics, the resistance-pressure relationship…. always with the intention of achieving a good sound and articulation and phrasing appropriate to the work.
In addition, Zoon comments that in the recapitulation the entrance of the theme should be more surprising, with respect to the cadence they work on articulation, trills and dynamics when entering with the tutti, the intonation in the descending chromatic scale, and they work on the final passage as an exercise to control the pressure in the mouth (from the abdomen).
