Janne Saksala: Bottesini – Introduction and Gavotta (Double Bass Part)

Course
2018-19

BOTTESINI, Giovanni

Introduction and gavotte for double bass and piano (double bass part)

Janne Saksala, guest professor

Jimena Rodríguez San Miguel, student

At the beginning of the class, Saksala suggests that the double bass wait a little longer for its first entry, so that there is enough time until the sound of the piano fades away. In some passages, it is necessary to take more time to express greater fantasy (this idea arises at many points throughout the class).

The professor works on the phrasing in depth: the most important notes should be highlighted, and one must choose when to breathe according to the expression. Finally, the use of vibrato in certain passages is also discussed.
