BELLINI, Vincenzo
I puritani (The Puritans)
“Or dove fuggo io mai?”
Javier Camarena, guest professor
Gabriel Alonso Díaz, student
Duncan Gifford, accompanying pianist
According to the professor, the recitative must be more fluid, in accordance with the action. A distinction must be made between silences of expression and those that are merely for a pause. Camarena corrects pronunciation details and moments in the text where the expression needs to be more present. In certain notes, it is necessary to round out the sound more, not so open. The highest note (G) is placed perfectly, but the previous notes must be the same.
It is very important to have a clear placement of each note from the beginning, and the sound must be pre-thought. Finally, Javier Camarena comments that it is good to study from the end to the beginning, and that in bel canto one must pay close attention to every detail.
