Jesús López Cobos: Beethoven – Symphony No. 9, Op. 125 – III. Adagio molto e cantabile

Course
2011-12

BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van

Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125

III. Adagio molto e cantabile

Jesús López Cobos, guest conductor

Freixenet Symphony Orchestra of the Reina Sofía School of Music

In this rehearsal, Maestro López Cobos works on aspects of dynamics and phrasing. In addition, there must be great precision in the coordination between strings and winds when articulating the ends of phrases. Rhythmic precision is also very important to achieve a blend between instruments; one must try not to rush. When we breathe, there can be a change of color if the phrasing requires it. They correct intonation issues, especially in winds. After the pizzicato, the violins must prepare quickly to play with the bow. It is necessary to find a balance between the voices and the melodic phrases.
