Joaquín Soriano: Beethoven – Piano sonata no. 31 op 110 – II. Allegro molto

Course
2002-03

BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van

Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat major, Op. 110

II. Allegro molto

Joaquín Soriano, guest professor

Cathal Breslin, student

For the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata No. 31, the professor suggests playing the left hand more legato at the beginning, while the right hand has a completely different phrasing and articulation.
He makes corrections mainly to phrasing and articulation depending on the melody to be highlighted in each part. A certain passage should be played as Beethoven wrote it: expressively and without accent, because this way it is more interesting. And then it should be played with a sense of humor and a smile on your face, thinking about the phrasing of the right hand.
