BACH, Johann Sebastian
Suite for Solo Cello No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1008 (transcription for bassoon)
II. Allemande
Klaus Thunemann, professor
Emilia Ada Jarmoszewicz, student
For Thunemann, it is important to highlight the dance-like character of this Allemande. The professor demonstrates how to do this by playing, also varying the articulation slightly compared to how the student played it. In addition, Professor Thunemann makes some corrections regarding the tempo and some specific notes, taking the harmony into account.
They also work on the phrasing to improve the interpretation, and the professor insists that it should be more danceable, giving as an example a recording of a Dutch bassoonist. He also points out the most suitable places to breathe.
Finally, he asks the student for more flexibility in the tempo and gives her some further instructions on the fly while she plays.
