MIGNONE, Francisco

16 Waltzes for Solo Bassoon (16 Valses for Solo Bassoon)

16. Aquela modinha que o Villa não escreveu

Klaus Thunemann, professor

Sára Rebeka Tóth, student

Professor Thunemann asks the student to play the complete phrase in a single breath. He also checks the sound quality of the A-flat. Then it must be played staccato, not rubato. The professor gives her some guidance on embouchure position while playing: for it to be more correct, she should lower her head a little more.
Thunemann also comments on the waltz’s triple meter; it has to be danceable. In this case, it has a sad character. He continues to review the melody’s articulation and breathing, and in conclusion asks her to think, when playing it, of that waltz dance, including the harmonies that would be heard (he demonstrates this by playing it on the piano).
