MILDE, Ludwig
50 Concert Studies for Bassoon, Op. 26
Study No. 17 in C minor. Adagio
Klaus Thunemann, professor
Lucía Molina Pardo, student
Thunemann begins the masterclass with a correction regarding the ornamentation (gruppetto). He also corrects the position of her mouth on the embouchure so that it does not lower and does not close the reed. The most important thing is the air, so she must control it adequately.
He also makes indications on other musical aspects such as tempo, phrasing, dynamics, maintaining the pulse, or the quality of sound and expression in the trill.
Later, he emphasizes questions about the reed, and that she should try to do a certain passage in one breath.
They also work on articulation, rhythm and character. In a certain part of scales, the notes must all be played more equally and the intonation must be taken care of.
Finally, as a result of the student asking Klaus Thunemann about her sound, he advises her not to press the reed so much, but to play more loosely. He tests her bassoon and they discuss questions about its tuning and how to avoid ugly sounds.
