VILLA-LOBOS, Heitor
Bachiana Brasileira No. 6 for flute and bassoon
I. Aria (Chôro)
Klaus Thunemann, professor
André Cebrián Garea, flute
Orsolya Juhasz, bassoon
At the beginning of the class, Klaus Thunemann corrects the tempo (they played it too fast) and the articulation in the flute. Later, the professor provides guidance on the suitability of breathing at a certain point and the accents in the bassoon. The duo must convey the dancing and Latin character of this piece, and to achieve this, Thunemann makes suggestions regarding rhythm and articulation.
Additionally, he offers further recommendations on expressiveness, dynamics, articulation, and accents. He also corrects the fingering for the bassoon at the end of the piece.
To conclude, Professor Thunemann proposes playing the Aria again, keeping in mind that it is “street” music: they must play with a full sound. If possible, the flutist should play the first phrase in a single breath, and finally, he gives some specific indications regarding the tempo for both.
