Leigh Melrose: Rossini – Sigismondo – “O Tranquillo Soggiorno”

Course
2017-18

ROSSINI, Gioachino

Sigismondo

“O tranquillo soggiorno”

Leigh Melrose, guest professor

Raquel Del Pino Herranz, student

Madalit Lamazares, accompanying pianist

Professor Melrose discusses the character of this scene with the student. They describe the character of the personage (Aldimira) and how to express her state of mind. Then he corrects the initial entry: one should not rush but rather enjoy the silence preceding it.

Later, Professor Melrose makes some comments on the expressiveness and color according to the feelings of the character in this aria. They also work on the staging of the role and interpretation of the scene being sung.

Finally, some issues are indicated mainly related to the text and its pronunciation, on its accentuation and phrasing depending on the importance of what is being said, and in relation to breathing.
