In this class, Professor Rizzi begins by discussing Bach and Baroque music. It is very important to pay attention to all the “clues” that Bach provides in the score: slurs, articulations, etc. Although there is the idea that Baroque music has a very logical and well-structured style, rigidity and severity within the form should be avoided. The student should differentiate between long and short lines with phrasing.
Marco Rizzi asks the student if he knows other pieces or movements of Bach’s works that use the same melodic turns. In addition, the character is a little rougher, and the student plays too carefully, and one must always maintain the flow when playing.
