HAYDN, Franz Joseph
Concerto No. 17 for Trumpet and Orchestra in E-flat Major H VIIe: 1 (reduction for trumpet and piano)
I. Allegro
Mark David, guest professor
Andrés Felipe Estrada Casanova, student
Marharyta Kozlovska, collaborative pianist
After playing the movement, the professor congratulates him and asks him to play it with more intention to communicate and thinking about projecting the sound to the audience. Regarding dynamics, he asks him to create more contrasts because sometimes the dynamic change is somewhat ambiguous. Mark David demonstrates this by playing several passages.
Later, in the descending chromatic line, the professor suggests showing more of that path toward the release of tension, and continues with other details relating to phrasing, musical direction, and expressiveness. He also asks him to pay more attention to the endings of phrases, so that the last note is not cut off.
To conclude, he makes two suggestions about other points in the first movement where he can play more freely to enrich the character of the concerto.
