For this orchestral passage, they discuss the most appropriate tempo (trying it at 126) and the rhythmic base with which to practice it. They then discuss how they articulate it, using single or double staccato depending on the moment.
The professor also comments that the only staccato notes are the quarter notes, and he plays it highlighting this distinction. When played fast, this gives a peculiar “jazzy” feel. He then gives her advice on how to improve her double staccato, suggesting an exercise to practice it. He also recommends practicing it legato so that the fingers move very quickly but are better coordinated with the tongue.
