RACHMANINOFF, Sergey
6 Duets for Piano Four Hands, Op. 11
1. Barcarolle in G minor
Menahem Pressler, guest professor
Juan Barahona, student
Martín García García, student
At the beginning of the class, Professor Pressler congratulates the two pianists on their performance. He talks about Rachmaninov’s compositions for four hands: in this piece, it seems that piano II does not develop its virtuosity as much as usual. In contrast, the composer works the pieces for two pianos differently: both parts (piano I and II) are more balanced.
The tempo “meno mosso” indicates a gentler character, an intention of entertainment.
Finally, the students work on the dynamic progressions up to the pianissimo so that they become more gradual.
