MENDELSSOHN, Felix
Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 in D minor, Op. 40 (orchestral part reduced for piano)
I. Allegro Appassionato
Mikhail Voskresensky, guest professor
Katharina Treutler, student
Denis Lossev, accompanying pianist
After the student’s performance, Professor Voskresensky congratulates her effusively. He notes that in the 19th century, Mendelssohn played this concerto, which must be taken into account, giving him the credit he deserves, as he was a giant. It is also helpful to imagine the energy, power, and freedom with which he played. The professor greatly enjoyed the interpretation of this 1st movement, only suggesting more dynamic contrast to create more surprise… therefore, he prefers to focus on and review the second and third movements (available in subsequent classes).
