RAVEL, Maurice
String Quartet in F Major
II. Assez vif – Très rythmé
Oliver Wille, guest professor
Óscar Esplá Quartet of Asisa
Patricia Cordero Beltrán, violin
Raquel Areal Martínez, violin
Raquel de Benito Forriol, viola
Montserrat Egea, cello
At the beginning, the professor asks them to play the 2nd movement keeping in mind what he has explained to them for the 1st: to know the global structure of the piece, to be clear about the great connections that take place. Following a question from the violinist to the professor, they comment on more general questions, outside of the specific work, relating more to the attitude when interpreting the music.
For the professor, it is extremely important to have a clear understanding of the architecture of the music in order to understand and interpret it correctly, and this is not something subjective.
Then the students play the beginning of the movement in succession, and then the professor points out that the tempo is very good but that the rhythmic variations, the rhythmic “conflicts” of each one, need to be fitted in.
Oliver Wille gives brief indications on expressiveness and character before having to finish the class.
