SAINT-SAËNS, Camille
Concerto for cello and orchestra no. 1 in A minor op. 33 (reduction for cello and piano)
I. Allegro non troppo
Pablo Ferrández, guest professor
Hugo Domínguez, student
Ofelia Montalván, accompanying pianist
For the beginning of the first movement, the professor recommends being on the string earlier so that the attack is more prepared and the sound is therefore cleaner.
All notes must sound correctly and be well defined; to achieve this, the student must play with the utmost intention, taking care with the ends of the sound, articulation, expression, musical phrasing, etc.
He also recommends varying the amount and contact point of the bow used, thinking carefully about what to do. All notes must be well connected and have a beautiful sound. The student must listen to himself attentively and listen to the piano chords in order to play with those harmonies in mind. By applying this working methodology, his level can improve significantly.
