TANSMAN, Alexandre
Fantasy for Cello and Orchestra (reduction for cello and piano)
Pablo Ferrández, guest professor
Alejandro Gómez Pareja, student
Miguel Ángel Ortega Chavaldas, accompanying pianist
After the student’s performance, Ferrández comments that it has many good qualities, but interpretively it lacked communication, expressing all the colors and differences the piece contains, projecting more while playing, and connecting better with the piano.
Returning to the beginning, they review the most relevant notes, phrasing, and musical direction, which greatly improves the expression and richness of nuances (vibrato, portamentos, romantic character, articulation…).
He insists on the utmost importance of maintaining attention to the relationship between notes at all times and continues with recommendations and use of tools so that the expressiveness has variety and is as rich as possible. Finally, he recommends taking greater advantage of the options this piece offers and, when practicing, not settling for the safe choices but taking more risks.
