STRAUSS, Richard
Concerto for Horn and Orchestra No. 1 in E-flat major TrV 117 op. 11 (reduction for horn and piano)
I. Allegro
Radovan Vlatkovic, professor
Anaís Romero Blánquez, student
Jesús Gómez Madrigal, accompanying pianist
Radovan Vlatkovic begins the class by suggesting some preparatory exercises for Strauss, based on several passages from the work. The student performs a fragment from the beginning, and the professor asks her what three positive things she sees in her performance. Then they move on to the things that need improvement.
Tone-Time-enTonation are the three most important “t’s”. At times, Vlatkovic points out that it is necessary to take more time with some notes. They rehearse two tempi, one controlling more for study, and another for the moment of the concert, letting go a little.
To conclude, they work on posture when playing and breathing in certain passages.
