After the student’s performance of the complete first movement, the professor congratulates him and discusses Haydn’s character as a composer, which is very humorous, citing other compositions as examples. Here too there are such surprising moments that are noteworthy. He continues with indications focused on achieving the most appropriate character for each moment: breathing and phrasing, articulations, dynamics, moments that are not so metronomic but rather more rubato, use of the pedal, accents, etc.
Gothóni addresses questions and doubts raised by the student, playing to demonstrate. Later he also emphasizes taking the appropriate time in the pauses, making certain melodic lines more fluid, and points out notes of greater or lesser importance.
