BELLINI, Vincenzo

I puritani (The Puritans)

“Or dove fuggo io mai?”

Reri Grist, guest professor

Alexis Heath, student

Ángel Cabrera, accompanying pianist

At the beginning of the recitative “Or dove fuggo io mai?”, Professor Reri Grist asks the student to get more into the role of Riccardo. Afterwards, she corrects the intonation and duration of a low note at the beginning: the student should make it longer, dwelling on it more.
For the next phrase, the professor suggests highlighting the contrast more by using another color. Several times throughout the class, Grist emphasizes that the student should sing more, show more of their voice.
Later on, the professor gives some advice on keeping his body firm, with his feet closer to the ground, opening and using his chest and the front of his body more.
Regarding the Andante affettuoso part, she corrects the pronunciation of some vowels and encourages the student to repeat it several times so that he can interpret it with the appropriate voice, while maintaining good sound support.
