Ridout begins by discussing the position changes used by the student, following the student’s performance of the first movement. They review articulation, phrasing, and fingerings, taking into account the character required at each moment. They also address issues relating to dynamics, colors, sound quality, and bow changes, among others.
Professor Ridout continues by primarily providing guidance on phrasing and bowing in relation to the work’s harmonies and the expression demanded by each musical moment.
