VERDI, Giuseppe
Don Carlo
“Per me giunto”
Tom Krause, professor
Mario Villoria Morillo, student
Madalit Lamazares, accompanying pianist
At the beginning of the aria, the student should not interpret it by becoming too sentimental. Professor Krause corrects his pronunciation of certain vowels, especially the “o” and the “a” which should be more open, and to achieve this he gives indications regarding the placement of the voice and the good support of the sound. This firm support must be maintained for the complete phrase, singing legatissimo and without losing focus. For a certain phrase later on, Tom Krause corrects the duration of a note and the moment to breathe.
The professor insists that the student must maintain good support at all times so that the sound quality of the notes emitted is adequate.
Finally, Prof. Krause advises maintaining the forte until the end.
