ROTA, Nino
Divertimento concertante for double bass and orchestra (reduction for double bass and piano)
III. Aria
Wies De Boevé, visiting professor
Erick Martínez Olivo, student
Jesús Gómez Madrigal, accompanying pianist
At the beginning of the class, the professor makes general indications about dynamics and color of the harmonics in a specific passage near the end of the piece. There is also a brief introduction to the work and the circumstances of its composition – commissioned for the film
Regarding the sound balance, the soloist has to be heard even in the moments when the orchestra plays louder. In a certain passage, it is advisable not to play as if it were a scale exercise but with more passion and vibrato (the professor plays it to show the student how to do it).
The professor also makes some comments and corrections regarding the pizzicato, phrasing, harmonic changes and articulation.
