In this master class, the professor indicates that the student’s interpretation must convince the audience that this work is a masterpiece. It is on the edge; Professor Kocsis would separate the materials much more into two: in orchestration and in dynamics (espressivo-non espressivo materials).
For the beginning, Zoltán Kocsis recommends not playing softer but maintaining the same volume. Afterwards, he makes some indications about the pedal and they work again on dynamic and phrasing aspects. The professor also remarks that the student should release the pedal more appropriately.
Regarding the theme, Professor Kocsis points out that there are two different roles or characters and comments that the melodic line is more important than the harmony itself.
