BRAHMS, Johannes

Sonata for Solo Piano No. 2 in F-sharp Minor, Op. 2

IV. Finale. Introduzione: Sostenuto – Allegro non troppo e rubato

Zoltán Kocsis, guest professor

Ji Liu, student

Kocsis’s class begins with a general assessment of the student’s entire performance. His main task is to convince the audience that this is a masterpiece.
Regarding this 4th movement in particular, the professor corrects a specific rhythm because it is not a triplet.
This Finale should be more active and lively. In conclusion, Zoltán Kocsis clarifies some issues for the student and insists on the importance of convincing with the form, especially in the last chords of the Sonata.
