MOZART, Wolfgang Amadeus

Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 17 in G major K 453

III. Allegretto – Presto

Zoltán Kocsis, guest conductor and soloist

Sony Chamber Orchestra of the Reina Sofía School of Music

After rehearsing the complete third movement, Maestro Kocsis comments that the character should be more in the style of Haydn, more peasant-like, but on the piano. In the theme, there is no need to rush. Subsequently, Kocsis asks them to play as short as possible to emphasize the difference between staccato and legato. In the fast passages of the piano, the orchestra should not play so loud, and afterwards the 2nd part should be played sotto voce and the character becomes sadder and more expressive. Later, they have rushed at a certain moment, and then the cadence is a slow moment. The maestro reviews the entries there with the concertmaster to be in sync. He continues with some brief indication on sound balance, tempos and phrasings. The coda is very fast and powerful.
