Zubin Mehta: Mozart – Symphony no. 38 K 504 ‘Prague’ – II. Andante

Course
2015-16

MOZART, Wolfgang Amadeus

Symphony No. 38 in D major K 504 “Prague”

II. Andante

Zubin Mehta, guest conductor

Freixenet Symphony Orchestra of the Reina Sofía School of Music

In this type of music, the vibrato is not exaggerated; it is a classical vibrato. Mehta corrects some aspects of articulation and dynamics and clarifies how to perform the gruppeto in the first violins. The violins have to vibrate before playing, otherwise it will sound dry. In the transitions, the tempo has to be the same. The Maestro also works by sections to correct the intonation of the woodwinds and focuses on some passages for oboe.
