Madrid, March 26, 2021.- The Reina Sofía School of Music will have, from the next academic year 2021-2022, the German violinist and conductor Christoph Poppen at the head of one of the three Telefónica Violin Chairs and the German pianist of Ukrainian roots Milana Chernyavska in the Banco Santander Foundation Piano Chair, to take over from maestro Dmitri Bashkirov, who recently passed away.
The Telefónica Violin Chair was created in the first academic year of the School, 1991-1992, by maestro Zakhar Bron, and was expanded in 2007, with a new chair for professor Marco Rizzi, and in 2010, with professor Ana Chumachenco, who left teaching at the School last year. Throughout these years,
For its part, the Banco Santander Foundation Piano Chair, had maestro Dmitri Bashkirov as professor since the School’s inception and, in the 2000-2001 academic year, added a second chair led by professor Galina Eguiazarova. Throughout these thirty years, 118 pianists of 38 nationalities have trained, with great names prominent on the international scene such as Arcadi Volodos, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Eldar Nebolsin, Claudio Martínez-Mehner, Juan Pérez Floristán, Plamena Mangova, Denis Kozhukhin and Víctor and Luis del Valle, among others.
Coinciding with these new additions to the faculty of the Reina Sofía School, the registration period is open for the selection auditions for students in both chairs for the academic year 2021/2022. All those interested in registering have until April 15. Tuition is free for all students. In addition, the School has a system of scholarships and various financial aid to make it easier for young musicians to cover all their needs during the course.
