Madrid, February 28, 2024.- The Reina Sofía School of Music, in collaboration with the International Institute of Chamber Music of Madrid, the Stauffer Foundation, the Cremona Consortium of Violin Makers “Liutai Antonio Stradivari” and Le Dimore del Quartetto are organizing a week where chamber music and string instruments will take center stage.
From March 4 to 8, the Rilke and Goldberg string quartets of the Stauffer Foundation, a private Italian institution dedicated to the professional training of string musicians and the promotion of musical culture, will work in the classes taught by Günter Pichler at the International Institute of Chamber Music of the Reina Sofía School, culminating in their performance in the Da Camera cycle concerts on March 8 at the Sony Auditorium. In addition, the Rilke quartet will play the instruments called “Quartetto del Consorzio”, created on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Cremona Luthiers Consortium and currently owned by the Stauffer Foundation.
Rilke and Goldberg, Italian groups, have the support of ‘Le Dimore del Quartetto’, a cultural institution that promotes chamber music and European cultural heritage by helping young chamber groups launch their professional careers.
In addition to live music, that week, from March 5 to 7, the foyer of the stalls of the Sony Auditorium of the Reina Sofía School will host an exhibition of string instruments provided by the Cremona Consortium of Violin Makers “Antonio Stradivari”.
This consortium was founded in 1996 to safeguard the work of the luthiers (about forty masters belong to it), and they have developed, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and the Associations of Artisans, the brand “Cremona Liuteria” that guarantees that the certified instrument has been made by hand by a professional master luthier from Cremona. The exhibition will be open to the public attending the concerts held that week at the School.
In addition, Giorgio Grisales, President of the Consortium and master luthier, will give a talk/workshop on the art of violin making and the care and maintenance of string instruments to the young musicians of the Reina Sofía School.
