EDP Reinforces its Collaboration with the Albéniz Foundation and the Reina Sofía School of Music

  • The Santander Music and Academy Encounter, the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, and the Camerata of the Reina Sofía School of Music are some of the Albéniz Foundation’s projects that EDP sponsors.
  • The EDP Foundation will award two scholarships to students of the Reina Sofía School of Music with the aim of promoting the training of young artists.

Madrid, October 18, 2021. EDP aims to consolidate and strengthen its collaboration with the Albéniz Foundation in order to expand its social action and its connection with the educational and cultural sector. With this purpose, Miguel Stilwell, president of EDP, has visited the school together with Paloma O’Shea, Founding President of the Reina Sofía School of Music.

During the visit, the energy company EDP wanted to highlight its support for the organization of the artistic activities of the annual tour of the EDP Foundation Camerata, including the traditional Christmas concert in the Santander Cathedral, and with the sponsorships of the Santander Music and Academy Encounter and the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition.

EDP collaborates, through its Foundation, with the projects of the Albéniz Foundation as a patron of the Santander Music and Academy Encounter and the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition. It also maintains its collaboration as a patron of the Reina Sofía School of Music through a chamber group, assuming the patronage and ownership of the School’s Camerata.

The EDP Foundation will also award two scholarships to students of the Reina Sofía School of Music. With this, it will contribute to the training of young artists that the Albéniz Foundation develops through the Reina Sofía School of Music, a center for advanced musical training of great international prestige based in Madrid, which in 2021 celebrates its 30th anniversary. The scholarship recipients for the current academic year 2021/2022 are the flautist Ana Ferraz and the horn player Rui Sergio Coelho Gil Godinho.

The support of the private sector to the School’s project is essential to fulfill one of the objectives of its academic ideology: to ensure that all talented young people can study there, through the granting of scholarships to cover the cost of their training. In this way, all students of the School receive free tuition.

In the words of Miguel Stilwell, president of EDP: “with this project we reinforce one of our commitments to culture and the development of the talent of the youngest. In addition, we will continue to bet on projects like this with the main objective of contributing to the development of a more inclusive society and a better future.”

For her part, Paloma O’Shea has indicated that “Everything we do at the Reina Sofía School of Music is based on the conviction that music has a great transformative power for people and societies. The close collaboration we maintain with the EDP Foundation allows us to bring the benefit of music to many people and that gives me great satisfaction. In addition, the patronage of the EDP Foundation allows us to reinforce the two main poles of our activity: Madrid and Cantabria.”
