The Santander Music and Academy Encounter brings together great international music masters with the new talents of tomorrow. The Encounter’s artistic directors, Márta Gulyás and Luis Fernando Pérez, select each participant through open auditions.
In Santander, around seventy of these young musicians work in the mornings with the faculty in masterclasses and rehearsals. The results of the work in the classroom are then presented in a concert series where teachers and students share the stage. The program of concerts and activities takes place in the Argenta, Pereda, and María Blanchard halls of the Palacio de Festivales, at the Palacio de la Magdalena, as well as in various venues across some twenty towns in Cantabria.
To mark the 125th anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi, Taballione and Doppler pay tribute to the composer in the Sala Argenta of the Palacio de Festivales. Professors and participants of the Santander Music and Academy Encounter perform a lyric programme dedicated to his work, which includes a special collaboration by Professor Paolo Taballione with the performance of fantasies for flute and piano inspired by themes by Verdi.
