The Arab Studies Chair at the Reina Sofía School, developed in collaboration with Qatar Foundation, aims to foster the exchange of knowledge and learning in Arab music and culture, while building new bridges between diverse societies without forgetting the historical characteristics of each.

As the opening of the II Arab Studies Chair Conference, the Doha Ensemble of Classical Maqam will offer a concert that proposes a journey through the maqam known today as Segah, spanning from ancient to contemporary repertoires and including both Arab compositions and works from other cultures that became part of Islamic civilisation, from the Iberian Peninsula to the borders of China. The programme brings together more than 300 years of musical heritage assembled through extensive research and exploration of manuscripts and early sound recordings.
